A Release Version is usually created early in the Deployment Pipeline that corresponds to a specific code commit in a Version Control System.
The benefit of a Release Version is to to have a specific, labeled instance of a software system about which can be reasoned (“version X has a bug”, “version Y misses that feature”, etc).
