You built it, you run it (YBIYRI) is a principle that was first defined by Werner Vogels in 2006 when he started as a CTO at Amazon. It states that teams that build a software are also responsible for operating and maintaining it.
A common responsibility that differentiate YBIYRI-adhering teams from others is a shared on-call for all members of the team (very often including the manager).
YBIYRI is hard to do at scale, due to the immense Cognitive Load that complex infrastructure and software systems impose. The best strategy is to reduce the complexity YBIYRI team members are exposed to through Developer Platforms.
